Seasonal perturbations

The steady rain which poured down yesterday evening turned into snow over night. 20cm of snow touched up the landscape this morning but the typical chaos did not seem to take place. That’s what I thought until I got onto the motorway (“the Autoroute”). When you want to take the motorway from Cruseilles to Geneva you leave the old national road and go downhill quite a bit to be able to take the entry (and pay your deeds) down in the valley.

The nice view on the motorway on monday morning showed – nothing. Not a single car. First I thought the motorway had been closed down, but that was not the case – for me. Apparently they had it closed between Annecy and Cruseilles, meaning that I was literally alone. Given it was monday morning and that the roads are usually busy then and at that time the feeling was really spooky (did I do something wrong? Is it a public holiday?).

Speaking of public holidays, now that I work in a catholic canton I’ll have a day off on the 9th of december to celebrate “Maria Empfängnis”, alas the day where Maria got “visited” by the holy spirit. A bizarre event to celebrate if you ask me, but nobody’s going to complain about a day off.
