Art Fair Impressions

Funny enough I did not take any pictures of Art, but of the surroundings.

In the Zoo :)

Matrix-Like

View from the Forshay Tower in Minneapolis down. I saw some terrific pictures taken there at sunset. However, the platform closes at 9pm, which was before sunset :-(

Still, an impressive view on the city:

St. Paul

I did not know that the author came from St. Paul:

Right next to this park there’s the old Libary, a very impressive building:

The real baker

This is Pierre VEIS – he is producing real bread, based on old recipes. You can find him on markets in the south of france and on the festival in Andilly, every year.

First pics with the new phone

Yes I know, MP is not everything and the small lens can’t compare to a real light tunnel but still! Here are the first pictures I took with the N8 :)

All Fribourg, and as you can see by the trash bags standing around: Taken on trash day, Tuesday or Friday.

Before/after: iPhone images and Lightroom

Yesterday I was shopping and took a picture of these fish with the iPhone:

Fish, taken with the iPhone

To show the effects of Adobe Lightroom I went through the workflow with it:

Fish pic after Lightroom

The quality is not overwhelming from the start, but the image after Lightroom does look better ;)

Dublin

I’m currently stuck using my Iphone 3G and the quality of the camera is always and again amazing me (it’s really bad..). Nonetheless I took some pictures with it while staying in Dublin.

We slept in Trinity College – the college is downtown, right next to Temple Bar and the rooms are rented out during summer break. Try to sleep there if you go to Dublin and are happy with space, clean accommodation and a traditional breakfast. If there’s room free it’s certainly where I will go if I need to go to Dublin again.

Another visitor was Mr. Obama..and Dublin was happy to welcome him. Did you know that Obama has irish roots? Yes, he can!

Temple Bar at night :)

And yes, I did not take pictures of the biggest attractions. You need to go yourself to see them.

The conference center (one of the conference centers..) is located close to the Docklands, a part of Dublin I had not seen yet.

“It looks like a beer”, does it?

The view from the top, inside the building, is terrific:

The camera in the iphone is really strange, this was what it produced in the plane looking outside:

And then we shared the flight route with two other a/c:

I need a better camera in my phone ;)

Insects. And woodwork ;)

I need a macro lens ;)

And this is how my playground looked today..added the last part of the deck :)

now with ipv6

As a direct consequence of the OpenNMS User Conference, this site is now listening on ipv6: http://ip6.genevainformation.ch

I did not get to fix the URLs which means that currently it’s only the start page which is ip6.

justmobile.ie and the iphone

Holy moly, I managed to connect. If anybody else has the issue, here’s how you get your iphone connected to justmobile.ie:

  • Get a sim card in one of the stores. I got the sim card for free (that’s May 2011).
  • Top up whatever you need to top up to get data access (I needed to put 18 EUR)
  • Sign up for the plan (in May 2011 you need to text JUSTRIGHT to 087 377 1818)
  • Now go somewhere where you have (free, grin) Wifi and your Mac (plus a pint of a beverage of your choice).
  • Download and install the iPhone Configuration Utility.
  • Create a new profile and only change the advanced settings by adding a new APN (isp.justmobile.ie) as described in a different context here. The APN is the network access point you need to use (“the gateway”).
  • Connect your iPhone, deploy the profile (see above for details) without signing
  • I went to Airline mode once and back to “re-register” on the network but I don’t even know if that’s really necessary.

I was surprised that such a thing as the iPhone Configuration Utility existed (I was not surprised that it worked, though). It prevented me from jailbraking the phone ;)

Update: Tethering does not work without jailbreaking.

U995

The german submarine U995 is open for visits in Laboe. We were lucky enough to be in the boat when it was closing time and got half-a-guided visit by the staff lady which wanted to lock the doors :)

Between 50 and 60 men for three months with one restroom.

Schleswig-Flensburg

For foreigners almost unpronounceable, the region in which I grew up is called “Schleswig-Flensburg”. Being the border region to denmark it suffered the fate of border regions and was swapped back and forth between Denmark and Germany a few times.

I like to understand what’s on flags, so here you have two of the three lions the danish kingdom shows on its flags. The two colours indicate the historical region of Schleswig, which is almost identical to today’s administrative area.

I took almost the same picture already one year ago – but the sight was so impressive that I did a second one ;)

100’000km

I bought the GPZ with 49’000 km in 2003, I think. Since then I put another 51’079km on it. That’s around 700 hours of pleasure :-)

The Castle

The view from above..amazes me again and again :-)

Baixa Chiado

A bit of news about the OpenNMS Book.

Well, news is that we have finally finished the formatting work. “We” is a slight exaggeration of the truth: The painful job of twisting LaTEX to show the content we wanted to show at the place the editor wanted it to be shown was mostly mastered by Klaus, who spent insanely detailed efforts on making the editor happy.

The cherry on top of the cake was then the cover text. It felt funny to write a short summary on a work which took three people more than a year to get done (I’m not saying that we spent three man years, but it took us that amount of time to get things sorted out): You briefly sum it up in a few sentences ;-)

So, looks like as if on first of June we’ll be out :-)

It’s the first book I’ve been involved in writing and I’m really excited to finally have the result in my hands.

nb – the book is in german
